CloudLinux OS 10 is Now Available for Non-panel and Custom Panel Installations

We are pleased to announce the release of CloudLinux OS 10 for non-panel and custom panel installations. This latest version brings a host of new features, updates, and enhancements designed to provide a more secure, efficient, and robust operating system for your servers.

Key Highlights of CloudLinux OS 10

CloudLinux OS 10 is built on AlmaLinux’s kernel 6.12.0, which brings all the patches, updates, and improvements from years of kernel development. You can find the full kernel changelog at kernel.org.

Architectural and Delivery Updates

CloudLinux OS 10 introduces significant architectural changes. The sole installation path is now a conversion from an existing AlmaLinux server. The new conversion process alters fewer aspects of the underlying system, resulting in several benefits and changes to system operation.

Adopting the rolling release scheme

CloudLinux OS 10 adopts the AlmaLinux rolling release scheme. This means that CloudLinux OS 10 will not have minor version OS releases separate from AlmaLinux.

For example, an AlmaLinux OS 10.1 minor release will mean a simultaneous CloudLinux OS 10.1 release.

System identification changes

Prior to CloudLinux OS 10, the conversion process would override a number of files, including configuration responsible for OS identification.

With the new, lighter conversion approach, the OS identification files are no longer altered. This includes the /etc/os-release file, which will now identify the operating system as AlmaLinux after conversion.

If you’re looking to specifically detect that a CloudLinux OS installation is present and functional, please use the cldetect and cldiag scripts provided by CloudLinux.

ISO availability for CloudLinux OS 10

CloudLinux ISO images are no longer provided. The primary method for CloudLinux OS 10 installation is converting an existing AlmaLinux 10 server using the cldeploy script.

Upstream MySQL/MariaDB binaries no longer patched to work with LVE/CageFS features

Prior to CloudLinux OS 10, CloudLinux systems were provided with modified mariadb and mysql packages to work with our LVE resource usage limitation features and MySQL Governor. This is no longer the case. There is now clean separation between the upstream-provided mariadb / mysql, and CloudLinux-provided cl-MySQL and cl-MariaDB.

  • System-wide cryptographic policies (crypto-policies), the OpenSSL TLS toolkit, and the OpenSSH suite now work with post-quantum (PQ) algorithms.
  • The OpenSSL TLS toolkit introduces creation of FIPS-compliant PKCS #12 files, the pkcs11-provider for using hardware tokens, and many additional improvements.
  • OpenSSH v9.9, which provides many fixes and improvements over OpenSSH 8.7 from AlmaLinux 9.

AlmaLinux Notable Changes

• Discontinuation of 32-bit Packages: Starting with AlmaLinux OS 10, 32-bit (i686 architecture) packages are no longer available.
• Re-enabled Frame Pointers: Frame pointers are re-enabled by default, facilitating system-wide real-time tracing and profiling to optimize performance.
• SPICE Support: SPICE support is enabled for both server and client applications, enhancing virtualization capabilities.

Non-panel and custom panel limitations

• In the non-panel environment, for now, we can guarantee all of the following CloudLinux OS Shared components functionality:
  • LVE limits
  • LVE Stats
  • MySQL Governor
  • CageFS
  • CloudLinux Selectors (PHP, NodeJS, etc.)
  • HardenedPHP
  • Apache mod_lsapi PRO
  • Slow Site Analyzer
  • Centralized Monitoring
  • Website Monitoring Tool
• The following components are available, but require control panel integration scripts to function:
• CloudLinux OS Solo/Admin editions are restricted to one and five users respectively on the UI level and might not work as expected.

Known issues

• alt-mod-passenger cannot access log files specified by PassengerAppLogFile directive by default when path provided is in the user’s home dir. This is caused by the ProtectHome=read-only parameter in httpd service config, introduced with CloudLinux OS 10 (CLOS-3629)
• Limited alt-nodejs package availability – only alt-nodejs-14 and alt-nodejs-24 are available at the moment, versions 22, 20, 19, 18, 16 will become available in the near future (ALTNJS-219)

We’re working to make CloudLinux OS 10 available with popular control panels: cPanel, Plesk, and DirectAdmin, etc.

Installation instructions

With the discontinuation of ISO images, the installation method for CloudLinux OS 10 is by converting an existing AlmaLinux 10 server.

1. Install AlmaLinux 10 on your server using any of the available methods.
2. Use the cldeploy script to convert your AlmaLinux 10 system to CloudLinux OS 10.
